Before you get started
What is included in Beginner Driver Education (BDE)?
SLM’s complete BDE program includes 20 hours of theory instruction, 10 hours of flexible instruction/homework and 10 hours of individual in-car training. The full program must be completed within the applicable program deadline.
Can I prepare specifically for a G2 or Full G road test?
Yes. SLM offers focused road-test preparation and packages for both G2 and Full G students. Your instructor can concentrate on the skills and driving situations most relevant to your test level.
Do you offer automatic and manual-transmission training?
Yes. SLM offers regular automatic in-car lessons as well as dedicated manual-transmission training packages.
Is pick-up and drop-off available?
Pick-up and drop-off is available for scheduled BDE in-car lessons subject to location and instructor availability. For addresses outside the regular service area, a convenient meeting point may be arranged.
Can I take lessons if I am nervous or returning to driving?
Yes. Private lessons can be adapted to your current experience and comfort level, including refresher training and confidence-building practice.
What languages are available for driving lessons?
Language support is available in English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Thai and Spanish, with male and female instructors available. Please confirm instructor and language availability when booking. AI-assisted translation support in 140+ languages may also be available; translation availability and accuracy may vary.
Can I use an SLM vehicle for my road test?
SLM offers road-test services and packages that may include use of a school vehicle and a same-day refresher lesson. Availability and meeting arrangements depend on the selected package and DriveTest centre.
What happens if I do not complete BDE within one year?
The complete BDE program must be finished within one year of the first theory session. Students who allow the program to expire are not eligible for BDE certification or a refund.
